The Perfect Holiday Dinner To Me

I have been through good holiday dinners and bad ones. My problem is I believe that holiday dinners should be the “perfect” dinners of the year. So if that means putting one’s pride and arrogance aside then so be it.

The Perfect Thanksgiving Dinner

I have always loved Thanksgiving since I was a child. It means plenty of thanksgiving-brownscombegreat food, football, and NASCAR. When I grew up and was interested in buying Black Friday became a big interest. I love the deals and since online shopping has great deals as well it makes Black Friday even easier.

I believe the perfect Thanksgiving Dinner is when the family gets together to help prepare the meal. It is such a big meal there are many things that can be done like preparing salads, cutting veggies, preparing deviled eggs, setting the table, and more. It helps time and ease up work. It also make Thanksgiving a better family time, for Thanksgiving is because the Pilgrims and Indians sat down and had a meal with peace.

The Perfect Christmas

Christmas has changed for me over the last decade or so. I have learned the true meaning of Christmas. Today the meaning that Christmas had when I was a child does not exists anymore.

The real meaning of Christmas

You may not believe it, but there us evidence that Christmas is not when2012124203839_the_christmas_gift Jesus Christ was born. Christmas begins after the Romans honor the pagan god of Saturn, the god of agriculture. The Romans honored the pagan god December 17 to December 25. The Roman leader was trying to figure out when Christ was born. They believed that the Earth was created in the spring equinox, so they believed Jesus was conceived in the Spring. He would be born nine months later, in the winter. They may have been wrong.

Now looking back and reading the scripture there is some proof that Jesus was born in the Summer or early Fall. There are a couple points that I think should have made me think when I was a child. The first one is “the shepherds were in the field watching their flock at the time of Jesus’ birth.”.

Luke 2:7-8 New International Version (NIV)

7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.

8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. (Bible Gateway)

Now during the winter the shepherds would not be out in the fields with their flocks, because it would be so cold like it is in the United States. It still had to be warm, at least cool outside. Also there had to be food for the flock like grass or leaves fallen from the tree. This is why it is now being seen that Jesus was not born at Christmas. Also a pagan ritual of giving gifts, decorating with bright colors, and celebrating starts December 25th. This is what Christmas is today.

The reason for Jesus Christ our Savior

Even if Christ was not born on Christmas Day, why can’t we remember the birth of our Savior. Why does Christmas have to be about gifts, cookies, music, and big meals. Jesus was born with nothing in the World, but when He ascended into Heaven He had everything. He is giving it back to us one day if you follow Him.

Make Christmas the perfect day

We are all different. If you believe in Christ, as I do, I believe we should celebrate Christmas for Him. Seeing as Christmas is a pagan holiday I believe we should not observe their rituals. That does not mean we cannot remember Jesus Christ. You can do that by going to church, having a great Christmas dinner, do not expect any gifts but be giving, stay focused on Jesus don’t celebrate Santa, Rudolph, and the other eight reindeer.

Always Be Kind

Any holiday of the year is about friends and family getting together and being happy. If we all want to be happy then making the person next to you should make you happy. Think of this…Imagine yourself at a round table of one hundred people. If all you did was be kind to the person on your left and the person on your right then you would start a chain reaction of kindness. When each one repeats your kindness in a matter of minutes all one hundred people would be kind to each other. Now put this in your image…the table is a mix of culture, race, religion, and sex. Do you think that would change the kindness? Well I do not think so. The reason is because if people put aside all the differences for the holiday then kindness will be greater. Let’s challenge ourselves this year and into next year. Let us be kind to one another. Let us not get offended because someone has a different opinion or culture. We all were created by God and we all have a purpose in His image.

Ephesians 4:29-32 New International Version (NIV)

29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. 32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
